A practical guide to becoming more organized

Do you hate it when you need something at home, and you need it now, but you have no idea where to find it? Does clutter seem to form at your property like a swirling vortex of entropy and that drives you crazy? Chances are that you want to become more organized, just it is too hard. Organization skills take a lot of time, effort and sheer force of will to form, and they are easily lost, but don’t despair, there are quite a few things that you can do in order to get started, and covering the basics is not that hard. Try some, or all of those things:

  • Key-bowlBegin with the small stuff. Place a bowl near the front door where you can put the keys from home, the car and the office, as well as some small change and other items you usually have in your pockets the minute you enter the house. In this way, when you are hurrying to get out in the morning because you have overslept and are already running late for an important meeting, you will not waste precious minutes looking for the keys.
  • Try to place every item in its right place immediately after you have finished using it. This goes for the remote control, books, small electronic devices and even your hair-dryer. It does not take any effort at all, and at the same time it is the most efficient way to keep your household organized.
  • In order to fight off clutter you should just try not to accumulate unnecessary items. Cancel the print out of your bills – after all, we live in the 21st Throw away spam mail immediately. Take a look at your wardrobe and find a way to get rid of old clothes, especially those that no longer fit you.
  • Spare a weekend for a spring cleaning. Have in mind that despite its name, you are supposed to do it at least a couple of times a year, so that you can keep the chaos at bay.
  • Get a reliable rubbish removal company to rid you from all the junk and household waste accumulated on your property. This is particularly advisable in case you are not happy with your council’s rubbish removal policy, or as it often happens, it is not enough.
  • Get your family involved. No matter how noble your intentions are, good organization at home is not something possible to achieve unless you get everyone on board. Make the kids responsible for their own rooms. Don’t be too harsh on the punishment if they do not live up to the task assigned, but make it clear that there will be rewards for those who do their job properly.

These are all just small steps to take towards a better organized household, but once you find the strength in yourself to start following them, you will immediately notice the results – and they are truly worth it, just trust us.
