Add Character to Your Home

Well, everyone wants their home to have some sort of statement. It is easy to add character to your domestic space – one that will make it much more appealing to visitors and guests, and what is even more important – make you more comfortable to stay at it.

There are several things that you can do in that direction. Most of them do not require special skills or resources, which means that you can do them on your own at any time. You can try to:

  • Change the lighting at your place. By updating the fixtures you can add comfort and character. In most cases it is a question of proper positioning and picking up the right light for the right place – a chandelier above the table in the dining room, small fixtures under the cabinets in the kitchen, accent lighting in dark corners etc. All of those will add up character to your place and make it much nicer.
  • Clear out the clutter at the foyer. You can even add a storage unit next to the front door, where you can keep mail, your keys, shoes, other small items, and most importantly – the clutter at bay. You will be surprise how better your home looks now that everything in the foyer is in order.
  • Colorful window treatment is a great addition to every living room. It will brighten up the space, make it livelier and much better to spend time in, which after all the ultimate goal of your project, isn’t it?
  • Leave no space unused. You can utilize areas that you have not used up until now for a variety of fun or recreational purposes that you have not thought of before – a thing that is totally going to reflect on the character of your home. For example, you can always use that odd crooked corner in the living room for building a great little reading nest. You will need just a small table and a comfortable couch – or even a number of large pillows on which to lie around and read.
  • Open-shelvesOpen shelves are great for adding character in a room, no matter whether it is the kitchen or the living room. In the kitchen, you can display cutlery and jars with spices on open shelves, while in the living room they would be great for displaying a beautifully arranged collection of souvenirs, books or family photos.
  • You can put accents in certain areas with architectural details – frame windows, wide moldings, cornices on top of cabinets etc. – whatever you can think of.

One very important thing that you should not forget is that before you commence your remodeling and house update project, you should find a proper waste collection and rubbish removal service that is going to help you get rid of the junk that is going to accumulate on your property due to the work you are doing. Trust us, you will be glad that you did that at the end.
