Have you decided to replace your PVC exterior doors with their solid wood counterparts? If so, here is a quick step by step tutorial which you can use to facilitate the task in front of you.
Step 1: Remove the PVC doors by tapping out the hinge pins with the aid of a hammer and slotted screwdriver. If you aren’t planning on reusing the old doors, contact a rubbish removal company and have it come and collect them, so that they can take them to a recycling facility, so that they can be repurposed.
Step 2: Measure the dimensions of your doors frames, so that you can know in advance which doors will fit and which won’t. This will drastically shorten your filtering time as nowadays there is an abundance of diversely sized doors on the market.
Step 3: Now that you are in the home depot scouting the different types of doors, make sure that you choose doors which have ornaments or patterns that will match the overall exterior style of your property.
Step 4: Head home and check the new doors whether they are fitting correctly to the door frames without inserting the hinge pins. If you notice any gaps fix them before mounting the doors permanently.
Step 5: You can fill the voids between the frame and doors by using insulating foam. At first apply a thin layer of foam and test the doors. If the gaps are still present, apply a second layer and continue doing so until the openings are gone. If you accidently use too much foam you can remove the excessive portion by using sandpaper.
Step 6: Next install the doors in place and insert the hinge pins so that you can test whether they are opening and closing properly. If the doors move difficultly remove them and apply a small amount of grease on both the hinges that are on the frame and doors. Mount the doors once again and use a clean cloth to remove the residual grease and once again test the movement of the doors.
Step 7: Grab a can of paint (make sure that you choose a colour that matched the tones of your exterior walls and features) and brush, and starting painting the outer side of the doors. The inner side you should paint in a colour that blends with your interior design and hues. Allow the first layer of paint to dry and then apply a second one.
Step 8: Once the doors have dried, apply a layer of transparent wood wax to protect the doors from the natural elements and once again allow the doors to dry for a couple of hours.
Step 9: Contact a rubbish removal company and have it come and clear all the builder’s waste that you have generated during the mounting process. Once the garbage is removed, sit back and enjoy your new doors.
As you can see replacing your old doors with new ones isn’t that hard, so stop wasting valuable time and start planning your property remodeling project.
