A Murphy Bar is a great household feature that doesn’t take much space and is still highly functional, especially when you are expecting a large number of guests. Another perk that it hasis that you don’t need to buy one as you can easily build your own.
Start the project by putting together the box of the Murphy Bar. Grab one of the side planks and screw to it shelf of the bar. The shelf should be placed at a height of 1/3 of the plank from bottom to top. Then attach the vertical divider of the bar to the other side of the shelf. Now grab the top and bottom planks to affix them to the side plank and divider. End this step of the project by attach the other side of the box to the bottom and top planks.
Now you should get the door of the Murphy Bar and mount to its down side the hinges. Also don’t forget to mount the hinges to the bottom side of the box that you build in the previous step. Make sure that the hinges alight perfectly or the door won’t close properly. Also attach the hooks to the door and to the interior side of the box. It is very important that the hooks are fixed properly as they will hold the chain or cord that will hold the door steady and carry the weight of the items that you place on the bar while it is open. So in order to be on the safe side double check everything before you move to the next step.
The third step is optional. You can build a roof for your Murphy Bar to give it a more vintage appearance. Just cut two wooden triangles from a sheet of wood. Make sure that the bottom side of the triangles is as long as the length of the bar box. Then affix the triangles to the front and back side of the top plank of the box. Then cut two piece of wood and place them flat on both sides of the triangles in order to create a roof. Attach the pieces with screws and voila.
Next screw in place the backside of the box and connect the door to it by attaching the hinges that you installed in step two. Don’t make the common mistake of forgetting to place the door handle. Once everything is assembled affix the Murphy Bar to the wall. Before you start filling the bar with beverages and glassware make sure that it is stable and strong enough to withstand the weight of the bottles and glasses.
